Vitronectin gehört zur Familie der Pexine. Vitronectin ist ein multifunktionelles Glycoprotein, das im Plasma und im Serum der extrazellulären Matrix nachweisbar ist. Es unterstützt die Zelladhäsionsreaktion im Gerinnungs- und Immunsystem. Vitronectin inhibiert den membranschädigenden Effekt der zytolytischen Kaskade des Komplementsystems und bindet an verschiedene Serpine (z. B. PAI-1). Durch Bildung eines binären Komplexes mit PAI-1 kann Vitronectin direkt dessen Enzymaktivität regulieren.

Klinische Bedeutung

Verminderte Plasmakonzentrationen von Vitronectin finden sich unter anderem bei disseminierter intravasaler Gerinnung oder degenerativer Leberschädigung. Ablagerungen von Vitronectin sind verbunden mit atherosklerotischen Läsionen.
